How to volunteer for the Bike Patrol

Before you consider volunteering, ask yourself: "can I commit one day every 6 weeks or so to the patrol?"  If the answer is yes and you have the enthusiasm to learn new skills to help forest visitors, then get in touch now!

Simply contact Andy Weir, one of the Tweed Valley mountain bike rangers. Email: andy.weir@forestry.gsi.gov.uk or call Andy on 07920 751733.

Questions?

You’ll probably have plenty of questions about the patrol and we are here to answer them. Contact the patrol via the details above - we'll be able to help you.

Take a test ride with the patrol

If you are keen to get involved in the patrol, then why not take a test ride with us?  We have regular rideouts which are aimed at those who are new to the patrol and wanting to gain some experience.  This will give you the chance to meet mountain bike rangers, fellow patrollers and sample the duties of a patroller.

You can bounce any questions or ideas off us in person. If you want to be part of this, drop us an email at andy.weir@forestry.gsi.gov.uk and we'll add you to our mailing list where you will be regularly informed of rideouts and other Bike Patrol news.

Alternative training

Alternatively, you could short-cut our training regime and join one of the many approved courses run around the UK each month.  You can contact the Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Award, run by Scottish Cycling, and arrange to join a Trail Cycle Leader Course.

You can also contact the British Association of Ski Patrollers and join one of their two day outdoor first aid courses.  If you already hold, or are about to gain, related qualifications and aren’t sure of their suitability, get in touch and we’ll let you know.
