Peebles in the Scottish Borders is around 40km south of the city of Edinburgh. Glentress forest lies on the A72, 3.5km to the east of Peebles. The trail head is beside the turn off into the forest from the A72.
The Glentress trail head OS Grid Reference is: NT284397. By bikeNational Cycle Route 1 (See http://www.sustrans.org.uk for details) runs through Innerleithen, about 7km from the trail head at Glentress. Innerleithen is around 45km from Edinburgh. The B7062 offers a quieter, if slightly longer, option for cycling from Peebles to Glentress rather than following the main road. Follow the B7062 to Cardrona then turn left onto the A72, heading back towards Peebles. Glentress is around 1.6km along the road, with the entrance on the right. There is a signposted regional cycling route to Peebles via Biggar, Broughton and Stobo (approx 45km) if arriving by train at Carstairs. By carRead our directions for reaching Glentress by car By public transportBy busFirst Edinburgh service 62 runs daily from Edinburgh to Peebles, taking around 1 hour. This service then continues on to Galashiels and will stop at the entrance to Glentress forest if requested. Please note that bikes currently cannot be carried on this service. There are no direct services from Glasgow, Carlisle, or Newcastle, however, connections from Newcastle and Glasgow can be made in Edinburgh, and there is a connection to Peebles from Galashiels if travelling from Carlisle. By trainThe closest stations are at Carstairs and Edinburgh, from where there are bus connections to Peebles and connections to regional and national cycle networks (see by bike, above).
