How to get to Newcastleton by car

Using SatNav or GPS?

Use post code TD9 0TD to reach the Newcastleton visitor centre and trail head. 

The OS Grid Reference for the trail head at Newcastleton is NY501874.

From Carlisle

Join the A7 heading north.  Around 8km after Longtown, turn right to join the B6357 at Canonbie.  Turn left at the junction in the centre of Canonbie and continue on the B6357 for around 16km to Newcastleton.  Just before entering Newcastleton, look for the turning on the right, signposted for Dykecrofts.  Follow the road for around 2km to reach the trail head at the visitor centre.

From Dumfries

Take the A75 to Gretna.  Join the A6071 and follow it to the A7.  Head north on the A7. Around 8km after Longtown, turn right to join the B6357 at Canonbie.  Turn left at the junction in the centre of Canonbie and continue on the B6357 for around 16km to Newcastleton.  Just before entering Newcastleton, look for the turning on the right, signposted for Dykecrofts.  Follow the road for around 2km to reach the trail head at the visitor centre.

From Newcastle

Take the A69 towards Carlisle.  At Brampton, join the A6071 and head to Longtown to join the A7.  Continue northwards on the A7 for around 8km, then turn right to join the B6357 at Canonbie.  Turn left at the junction in the centre of Canonbie and continue on the B6357 for around 16km to Newcastleton.  Just before entering Newcastleton, look for the turning on the right, signposted for Dykecrofts.  Follow the road for around 2km to reach the trail head at the visitor centre.

From Edinburgh

Follow the A68 south through Dalkeith and Lauder to Jedburgh.  Continue through Jedburgh on the A68 for around 3km then take the right turn onto the B6357.  At Bonchester Bridge, turn left onto the A6088 and follow this for around 1.5km before a right turn back onto the B6357, which runs directly to Newcastleton. Go through the town and look for the turning on the left, signposted for Dykecrofts.  Follow the road for around 2km to reach the trail head at the visitor centre.

From Glasgow

Follow the A74(M) south to junction 21 (Kirkpatrick Fleming) and turn off onto the B6357.  Keep on this road to Canonbie, and at Canonbie, turn left at the junction in the town centre to continue on the B6357 to Newcastleton, around 16km further.  Just before entering Newcastleton, look for the turning on the right, signposted for Dykecrofts.  Follow the road for around 2km to reach the trail head at the visitor centre.
