How to get to the Fire Tower Trail
 

Cyclist on the Fire Tower Trail, West ArgyllThe Fire Tower Trail is by Lochgilphead in Argyll.  Access points are at Achnabreac and Kilmichael Glassary, as well as from Lochgilphead via the track at Blarbuie.

By car

Lochgilphead lies on the A83 Tarbet - Campbeltown road and at the south end of the A816 to Oban.

Achnabreac car park
Turn east off the A816 approximately 3km north of Lochgilphead, directly opposite the turning to Cairnbaan. Follow the forest road for 900m to the car park.

Kilmichael Glassary
Approximately 6km north of Lochgilphead, turn east off the A816 through the village of Bridgend. Follow the signs to car parking in Kilmichael Glassary.

By public transport

By bus

The Scottish Citylink service 926 runs daily from Glasgow to Campbeltown via Lochgilphead.  Journey time is around 2 hours 40 minutes from Glasgow.

Bikes are carried on Scottish Citylink services free of charge provided they are in an approved box or bag and that there is sufficient space in the luggage hold.  See the Scottish Citylink website for further details.

The West Coast Motors service 423 runs from Oban to Lochgilphead.  Luggage space is limited but bikes can be carried.  See the West Coast Motors website for further information.

By train

The nearest train station is at Oban, approximately 36 miles (56km) from Lochgilphead.  You might need to book in advance to take your bike on the train.  See First Scotrail's information for cyclists.  Journey time to Oban is three hours from Glasgow.
