About Motte Walk

This is a short walk that takes you to the Motte, the remains of an Anglo-Norman stronghold that dates from the 12th Century.

How to get there:

Motte Walk can be started from Cally Wood in Galloway Forest Park. Gatehouse of Fleet is the nearest town or village.

From Newton Stewart:

Leave Newton Stewart on the A75 heading towards Dumfries, turn left signposted Gatehouse of Fleet (19 miles). Straight through Gatehouse heading for the Cally Palace hotel, turn right into the Cally Palace hotel and the carpark is on the left.

From New Galloway;

Take the A762 heading for Laurieston, from Laurieston take the Gatehouse road signposted Gatehouse of Fleet from Laurieston. Turn left at Gatehouse of Fleet heading for the Cally Palace hotel. Turn right into the Cally Palace hotel and the carpark is on the left.
