About Green Trail

Please note: the Southern Upland Way section of the Loch Trool green trail is diverted due to forest operations. This will be in place for roughly 2 months. Please follow diversion signs on the ground. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Walk along Loch Trool and enjoy the sound of the water lapping against the rocky shores. Stand where the Battle of Steps of Trool was fought between the English and the Scots. Take in the stunning views across the tranquil waters to the Fell of Eschoncan and Buchan Hill, the foothills of the Merrick.

How to get there:

Green Trail can be started from Glentrool Visitor Centre in Galloway Forest Park. Newton Stewart is the nearest town or village.

From Newton Stewart take A714 signposted to Girvan for eight miles. Take right turn at Bargrennan signposted Galloway Forest Park. Take next right turn just past Glentrool village signpost to Glentrool Visitor Centre.
