About Polmaddy

This is a big conifer woodland that has many heritage features scattered thoughout, including Polmaddy settlement, a classic example of a Galloway Village before the improvements and clearances of the 1700's and 1800's.

The Polmaddy burn winds its way lazily through the woodland which opens up to afford wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

Acces is off the A713 between New Galloway and Dalmellington.

How to get there:

Polmaddy is in Galloway Forest Park. Dalry St Johnstown and Carsphairn are the nearest towns or villages.

From Newton Stewart

Take the A712 signposted New Galloway. From New Galloway take the A713 signposted Ayr, Carsphairn.

Follow the road to the village of Polmaddy, take the first left opposite the village(there will be a Forest Commission sign) then follow the forest road until you reach the carpark.
